Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop recovery and purification process using clarification, chromatography, and membrane filtration for mAbs, bispecifics, and ADC.
  • Design and execute process development and characterization activities, impurity and viral clearance studies.
  • Technology transfer to pilot lab and cGMP facilities; support campaigns.
  • Model protein properties to understand manufacturability impacts.
  • Explore innovative technologies (AI, automation, novel resins) across AbbVie areas.
  • Capable of publishing and presenting research; may contribute to patents.
  • Adhere to safety, GxP, and regulatory standards as applicable.

Job Description

Conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to answer scientific questions. Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods and techniques. Contribute to project science in area of expertise. Develop productive collaborations and communications with other groups across science disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Develop recovery and purification process that utilizes clarification, chromatography, and membrane filtration technologies for monoclonal antibodies, bispecifics and antibody drug conjugates (ADC). Provide deeper understanding of process performance using appropriate experimental and modeling tools.
  • Design and execute process development and characterization activities, impurity and viral clearance studies. Highly independent and productive in performing laboratory research and/or development, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.
  • Responsible for technology transfer to pilot lab and cGMP manufacturing facilities, troubleshooting and investigation activities. Provide person-in-plant support for pilot and/or cGMP manufacturing campaigns.
  • Play a key role in coming up with protein structure properties modeling and/or analytical characterization to build deep scientific understanding of protein property and its impact on manufacturability.
  • Exhibit a strong motivation to implement and advance various innovative technologies (such as AI skillset, automation/highthroughput, and/or novel resins) in relevant areas across AbbVie.
  • Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities. Capable of being a primary author of publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary.
  • Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
  • Education background in chemical engineering, biophysics, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or biotechnology is preferred.
  • Experience in areas of biophysical characterization and/or protein structure modeling is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in areas of purification process development is strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience and/or collaboration experience in areas of biologics LC-MS is preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and specifically illustrate strong oral and written technical communications.
  • Seamlessly present research outcomes to multifunctional teams.
  • Play a strong team player in a cross functional collaborative environment thriving for world class excellence and maintains strong working relationships with internal, global, and external collaborators.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and capability to overcome complex issues.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating and executing important projects to achieve business goals.
  • Must have a “results-oriented” work ethic and a positive “can-do” attitude with a strong sense of urgency and self‑motivated desire to achieve.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
