Job summary

MSTS seeks a Senior Scientist/Physicist for the High Energy Density Experiments team at Livermore to lead diagnostics engineering across IR to neutron regimes. You will bring conceptual physics to bench calibration, deployment, and fielding in subcritical experiments and stockpile stewardship campaigns.

Collaborating with PIs at NNSS, NIF, and the Omega Laser Facility, you’ll develop procedures, control software, and analysis methods while ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in a calculus-based technical field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Master’s in STEM with 3+ years of progressive experience; PhD can substitute.
• Knowledge of Chicago, COMSOL, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python or AI software is beneficial.
• Experience with diagnostics, metrology, spectroscopy, and high voltage systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and fielding of diagnostics across IR to neutron regimes.
• Collaborate with PIs at NNSS, NIF, and Omega facilities.
• Develop SOPs, automated control routines, and safety docs.
• Field and troubleshoot diagnostics during shot cycles and tests.
• Analyze shot data with uncertainty quantification and interpretation.
