Job summary

Cambium Biomaterials, Inc. in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Sr. Scientist in Synthetic Chemistry to design and synthesize new compounds for high‑temperature composite materials.

You’ll work closely with computational scientists to discover and synthesize materials, operate on‑site reactors, and optimize processes for manufacturability, cost, and performance in extreme environments. Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in a related field with years of experience; or equivalent combo.
• Deep understanding of thermoset polymer resins.
• Strong desire to learn and work in a hands-on engineering role.
• US citizenship required due to security considerations.

Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize compounds for high-temperature materials and DoD applications.
• Evaluate synthetic routes and scale-up opportunities with discovery teams.
• Lead in-house process development to enable scale-up and CMOs transfer.
• Provide chemistry guidance for operation of large reactors.
• Characterize targets and feedstocks using HPLC, NMR, FTIR, IPC.
• Design monomers/formulations meeting property requirements; interpret thermal data.
• Support manufacturing of aerospace components with curing and bonding inputs.
• Develop specifications for composite processing like RTM, FDM, or tape layup.
• Provide progress updates to senior engineers and leadership.
• Communicate findings clearly to colleagues, investors, and partners.
