Job summary

Corning Research & Development Corporate's Organic Materials Directorate seeks a PhD-level synthetic chemist to advance materials design and extraction using Advanced Flow Reactor (AFR) technology, tackling pharmaceutical intermediates, energetic materials, and critical minerals.

You will design routes, scale processes from lab to pilot, analyze data, support IP, and collaborate across teams, while upholding safety and compliant workflows.

Qualifications

• PhD in Polymer, Organic Chemistry, or related discipline.
• Familiarity with NMR, GC-MS, UPLC, FTIR.
• Experience in critical mineral extraction.
• Batch synthesis of small organic molecules/polymers; scale-up preferred.
• Excellent documentation and data analysis for IP and reporting.
• Strong communication to interact with customers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in fast-paced project environments.

Responsibilities

• Design novel molecules and reaction pathways for efficient synthesis.
• Develop, optimize, and scale chemical processes from lab to pilot.
• Lead innovations in critical minerals extraction.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions.
• Ensure safe, compliant lab operations and safe workflows.
• Monitor trends in synthetic and process chemistry to drive opportunities.
• Collect, analyze, and document experimental data for decisions and IP.
