Job summary

Imbed Biosciences Inc. in Middleton, WI, seeks a Research Scientist with a strong biomaterials background to develop bioresorbable wound dressings loaded with medicinal substances. You will work across materials science, cell culture, microbiology and toxicology to advance in‑vitro and in‑vivo studies.

Qualifications

• PhD or postdoc in biomaterials with 1–3 years in academia, medical device, or pharma.
• Experience with murine or porcine small animal studies.
• Knowledge of cell-culture assays, cytotoxicity tests, biocompatibility testing, fluorescence microscopy, SEM, and UV‑Vis.
• Proven record of publications and patents.
• Experience writing federal grant proposals.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and perform experiments on polymeric films with medicinal substances.
• Plan in vitro antimicrobial tests against broad microbial strains.
• Plan in vivo testing in murine and porcine wound healing models.

Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist with a strong background in the development of biomaterials for drug delivery and tissue engineering. Research scientist will employ principles of materials science, cell culture, microbiology and toxicology in the development of bioresorbable wound dressings impregnated with medicinal substances. Primary duties will be to conduct research on the characterization of biomaterials in a range of in‑vitro assays and in‑vivo small animal studies, manage biocompatibility studies, write research reports for publications, and ensure timely completion of projects.

Roles and responsibilities

• Design, plan and perform scientific experiments on assembly, characterization and performance of polymeric films impregnated with medicinal substances
• Design and plan in‑vitro antimicrobial tests against a broad spectrum of microbial strains
• Design and plan in‑vivo testing in murine and porcine wound healing models
• Design and plan biocompatibility tests in different animal models following ISO 10993 guidelines
• Evaluate combination of new polymers, biomaterials and medicinal substances
• Identify and solve analytical problems in translational research
• Organize and write scientific research proposals for federal grants
• Write and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions to support Commercial Product Development
• Supervise research assistants, interpret and analyze data, write reports and present results
• Excel in a high‑energy team environment and be capable of making sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and incomplete information typical of research and development

Minimum qualification and experience

• Education/Experience: A PhD or postdoc in biomaterials research, with 1‑3 years work experience in academia, medical device, or pharmaceutical industry
• Experience with research in small animal studies specifically with murine or porcine models
• Practical or theoretical knowledge of various cell‑culture based assays, cytotoxicity assays, biocompatibility testing, fluorescent microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and UV‑vis spectroscopy
• Proven track record of innovative project contributions through publications and patents
• Experience in writing research proposals for federal grants
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
• Demonstrated experience in addressing complex scientific problems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred experience

• Experience in research on wound healing, skin diseases, burns, biofilms, antimicrobials and anti-inflammatory agents
• Experience in regulatory affairs
• Experience in medical writing, clinical protocols or regulatory filings
• Experience in project management
• Experience with product development under a quality management system
