Confidential, a stealth-mode immunology biotech startup, is seeking a Senior Scientist in San Diego to lead design, execution, and analysis of in vitro immunology assays to elucidate mechanism of action and prioritize lead candidates for clinical development.

You will conduct hands-on experiments, manage CRO collaborations, and contribute to project planning, documentation, and communication of results to scientific and leadership stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of drug discovery experience in pharma/biotech.
• Bachelor's in Biology or related field required (PhD not required).
• Hands-on experience designing, developing, and executing immune cell‑based assays.
• Experience with CRO collaborations and external partners.

We are a stealth mode early stage immunology company, specifically inflammation and auto immunity. We are funded and just secured a brand new lab space at Lilly Gateway Labs and are building out our scientific team.

Role Description

The Senior Scientist will lead the design, execution, and analysis of in vitro immunology assays to elucidate mechanism of action, support lead candidate prioritization and advancement, and contribute to translational research efforts that enable progression of assets into clinical development.

Responsibilities include very hands‑on laboratory experiments and managing collaborations with CROs and external academic and industry partners. This role will contribute to experimental and project planning, documentation, presentation, and communication of results to scientific and leadership stakeholders. The candidate must be highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of thriving in a dynamic, fast‑paced biotechnology startup environment. This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 8+ years of experience in drug discovery in pharma or biotech required.
• Bachelors Degree in Biology or related scientific field (PhD not required).
• Demonstrated hands‑on laboratory experience designing, developing, and executing immune cell‑based assays to evaluate therapeutic candidates.
• Strong expertise in cellular and immunology‑based assays, including PBMC, primary immune cell cultures, flow cytometry, ELISA, and multiplex assay platforms.
• Manage collaborations with CROs and external partners to ensure alignment of research objectives and timelines.
• Conduct independent literature reviews and integrate emerging scientific insights into experimental design, data interpretation, and strategic research planning.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results, including electronic laboratory notebook documentation and technical reports supporting regulatory submissions.
• Present and communicate scientific findings to cross‑functional project teams to support data‑driven decision‑making and program progression.
• Experience working on biologics is a plus.

Salary for this role depends on direct qualifications and experience related to the role. Salary range for this role is $155,000 - $175,000 per year plus bonus, equity and a comprehensive benefits package.
