Job summary

Biogen in South San Francisco seeks a Scientist with drug discovery experience in inflammatory diseases to join the Immunology team. The role focuses on translating immunology and molecular biology into transformative therapies, working at the interface of basic research and drug development.

You will design in vitro and in vivo studies, identify targets, generate data for lead optimization, and collaborate across pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and translational sciences.

Qualifications

• PhD, MS, or BS in Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or related field.
• Experience in inflammatory and autoimmune disease drug discovery preferred.
• Strong expertise in immune cell biology and assay development.

Responsibilities

• Conceive, design and execute in vitro and in vivo studies to explore mechanisms underlying inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
• Identify and validate new drug targets, biomarkers, and pathways relevant to immune-mediated disorders.
• Generate data supporting lead optimization, biomarker discovery, and translational research.
• Generate and interpret complex data sets and present findings internally and externally.

About This Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Scientist with drug discovery experience in diseases with an inflammatory etiology to join our growing Immunology team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in immunology, cellular and molecular biology and/or related scientific field and contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapies targeting inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment at the nexus of basic research and therapeutic innovation to develop transformative therapies aimed at addressing unmet medical needs for patients who need it most.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceive, design and execute in vitro and in vivo studies to explore mechanisms underlying inflammatory and autoimmune diseases
• Identify and validate new drug target, biomarkers, and pathways relevant to immune-mediated disorders
• Generate data that supports lead optimization, biomarker discovery, and translational research
• Generate and interpret complex data sets and present findings internally and externally (e.g. meetings, conferences, publications)
• Collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues in pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, protein engineering, and computational and translational sciences to drive target identification/validation, drug discovery, and development
• Foster a culture of scientific excellence and innovation by staying abreast of scientific advances and emerging technologies in immunology and inflammation

Location

This position is based in South San Francisco, California and requires frequent onsite presence. Candidates must be within commutable distance or able to self-relocate to be considered.

Qualifications

• PhD, MS, BS (PhD preferred) in Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field with 0-2+ years of industry experience, preferably in inflammatory and autoimmune disease drug discovery (MS with 4+ years experience, BS with 6+ years experience)
• Strong expertise in immune cell biology (innate and adaptive immunity), cell signaling, and immunological assay development
• Hands-on experience with relevant techniques, including, biochemical and cellular assay development, tissue culture, multiparametric flow cytometry (e.g. 15+ colors), ELISA/MSD, RNA & protein analysis (e.g. RNA-seq/qPCR, Jess), CRISPR isolation and culture of primary murine and human cells or patient-derived samples
• Experience with disease models of inflammation and/or autoimmunity is a plus
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in team settings

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in biotech/pharma drug discovery or translational research
• Experience working with small-molecule and biologics drug discovery
• Experience with multiomics analyses (e.g. genomic, transcriptomic, proteomics, etc.)

The base compensation range for this role is: - Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity. Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
