Job summary

The University of Vermont seeks a Senior Scientific Software Engineer to lead the computational backbone for a NSF-funded high-throughput volume electron microscopy observatory. You will architect scalable CPU/GPU workflows, evaluate open-source tools, and develop production software with a focus on reproducibility and collaboration across national partners.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, CS, or related field with 10+ years in scientific software engineering.
• Experience handling large microscopy datasets in distributed compute environments.
• Proven ability to architect, deploy and sustain modular production software.
• Experience with HPC, parallel CPU/GPU workflows and performance tuning.
• Strong Python and one of C/C++/MATLAB in Linux, with dev practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of CPU/GPU workflows for ht vEM observatory.
• Architect and optimize scalable software production pipelines.
• Evaluate open-source tools and integrate components.
• Provide technical leadership and coordinate across teams.
