Job summary

Saraland City Schools is accepting applications for a Maintenance Specialist. The role requires a high school diploma, five years in the trade, and valid Alabama BDL/CDL within six months. You will perform general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and equipment care across school facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of experience in the designated trade/skill area, or a combination of training and experience.
• Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (BDL) and commercial driver’s license (CDL) within six months of employment.
• Ability to perform general school facility maintenance.
• Meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under applicable acts.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions relevant to trades.
• Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and layouts.
• Estimate time and materials for efficient project completion.
• Able to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights; work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Support and promote the school system’s mission, vision, beliefs, and goals.
• Maintain positive public relations for the school and school system.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance; record attendance and leave requests.
• Report to assigned locations at designated times, as directed by the Director of Operations.
• Perform general construction tasks (e.g., framing, drywall, doors, windows, painting, decking).
• Perform carpentry tasks (e.g., bulletin boards, desks), replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles.
• Perform routine plumbing tasks (e.g., unclogging fixtures).
• Conduct touch-up painting, floor/carpet repair, minor concrete work.
• Complete work orders independently; ensure quality and efficiency.
• Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
• Demonstrate initiative to identify problems or improvements.
• Report potential problems or irregularities to supervision.
• Respond to inquiries promptly; maintain reports and records.
• Properly use and care for tools and materials; comply with policies.
