Job summary

ISD 622 in North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale is seeking a Lead School Bus Mechanic & Shop Supervisor to lead maintenance operations, assign work, and ensure safety and compliance for a fleet of school buses.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong mechanical expertise, and the ability to guide a team in a fast-paced environment. CDL/ASE credentials and DOT knowledge are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in truck repair or mechanics.
• Minimum 3 years of reliable truck repair experience.
• 3+ ASE certifications.
• CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Underground Storage Tank Training certificate within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support a team of school bus mechanics
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards and safety procedures
• Assign daily work orders and prioritize repairs based on operational needs
• Perform diagnostics and assist with complex mechanical issues
• Ensure all maintenance and repairs meet safety and regulatory standards
• Conduct quality checks on completed work
• Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
• Maintain accurate service and repair records
• Monitor shop productivity and workflow efficiency
• Mentor technicians
• Enforce safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized shop
• Communicate with operations/transportation team regarding vehicle status
• Performs other duties as assigned
