Job summary

Lenoir County Public Schools Transportation Department in Kinston, NC is seeking a Mechanic II Service Mechanic to maintain and repair school vehicles. The role requires diagnosing problems, performing tune-ups, brake work and routine preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of school bus and vehicle operation and maintenance.
• Strong understanding of internal combustion engines and components of school buses and service vehicles.
• Knowledge of automotive repair shop tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and understand NC Inspection Law and apply it.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses minor and complex mechanical problems.
• Performs engine tune-ups using computerized equipment.
• Repairs and replaces brake drums, transmissions, and electrical components.
• Inspects buses and other school-owned vehicles as required by NC DMV.
• Assists and provides instruction to lower level mechanics.
• Performs general maintenance as needed.
