Job summary

ICE is seeking a Schematic Design Engineer to join our Houston or San Antonio office. You will lead schematic development for highways and roadways, coordinating with roadway, traffic, drainage, environmental, and structures teams.

The ideal candidate has 8–12 years of transportation design experience, a Texas PE, and proficiency in MicroStation/OpenRoads. This role emphasizes client engagement, project leadership, and delivering compliant technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of design and design management experience on transportation projects.
• TxDOT Roadway Design Manual and City design criteria familiarity.
• Experience with schematic design for interchanges, highways, and roads.

Responsibilities

• Prepare scope of work and fee proposals for preliminary schematics.
• Lead planning, management, and delivery of surface transportation projects.
• Serve as primary client contact to understand needs and ensure satisfaction.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated design solutions.
• Oversee scope, schedule, budget, and quality, ensuring standards compliance.
• Develop schematic design alternatives and corridor analyses.
• Support production of technical documents and project deliverables.
• Identify and mitigate project risks and support business development.
