Job summary

CarMax is seeking a skilled Salesforce-focused full stack developer to design, build and integrate solutions across online and in-store experiences. You will balance customer needs with business goals and collaborate with product design, management and architecture to push innovative ideas in an agile setting.

You will mentor team members, stay current with industry trends, and contribute to delivering best-in-class customer experiences at CarMax.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full stack application development.
  • 3+ years implementing Salesforce custom applications using Apex.
  • Solid understanding of Salesforce design including limits, throttling, security, APIs.
  • Experience with agile development teams and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; mentoring experience expected.

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities
  • Design, build and integrate solutions on the Salesforce platform that supports sales associates to understand the real‑life challenges of customers and discover what they need to move seamlessly between the online and in‑person shopping experiences.
  • Balance customer needs with business goals and know how to deliver technical solutions that enhance business value.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in product design, product management and systems architecture to develop experimental solutions and bring great ideas to life.
  • Market your innovative ideas internally and evolve them according to feedback and critique within an agile environment.
  • Stay on top of industry trends and best practice to continuously improve what we do and ensure our customer experience is the best it can be.
Purpose of the role

Working collaboratively and creatively as part of a close‑knit product team, you will be part of the development process from end to end: consulting users, carrying out experiments, tackling complex business problems and implementing new products. You can balance customer needs with business goals and know how to deliver technical solutions that enhance business value. Basic Qualification Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience is required.
  • 5+ years of full stack application development experience required.
  • 3 or more years of experience implementing Salesforce custom applications for sales, service, or business office users using the Apex language.
  • Solid understanding of Salesforce custom application design including knowledge of limits, throttling, security, APIs, etc., on the Salesforce platform.
  • Experience with agile development teams and practices.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Proven skills and experience mentoring team members is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Apex and Lightning frameworks
  • Experience with Salesforce Managed Packages
  • Experience with an API first design paradigm and cloud based hosting
  • Experience with Salesforce customization and administration
  • Experience with DX preferred
  • Salesforce Developer Certifications preferred
  • Experience with .NET, Azure platform is a plus
  • Experience as a software developer working with product teams.
Work Location and Arrangement

This role will be based out of the Richmond Midtown or Plano Tech hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.

  • Associates based in Richmond work on‑site 4 days per week.
  • Associates based in Plano work on‑site 2 days per week.
Work Authorization

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

Benefits

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full‑time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
