Job summary

City of Pueblo seeks an Accounting Technician IV to support the Sales Tax Division with complex clerical and data entry duties. You will issue receipts, post payments, create taxpayer accounts, and review tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance for customers and city operations.

The role requires precise accounting knowledge, strong customer service, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced municipal environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in accounting or business with at least 3 years in accounts payable/receivable, bookkeeping, or sales tax processing.
• High school diploma or GED with at least 5 years of experience in accounts payable/receivable, bookkeeping, or sales tax processing.
• Must maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to operate a computerized cash register and perform basic math with a 10-key calculator.

Responsibilities

• Provides para‑professional support to the Sales Tax Division.
• Creates new licenses and accounts on tax system.
• Posts taxpayer payments to business accounts on tax system.
• Enters and verifies sales and use tax returns.
• Reviews computations to correct errors and ensure accuracy.
• Explains complex regulations to taxpayers and city personnel.
• Documents tax system of required licensing credentials.
• Scans/links documentation to electronic filing system.
• Performs data entry on spreadsheets tracking revenues and events.
• Assists walk‑in customers for tax payments and licensing needs.
