Job description

The Senior Safety Representative is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and executing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities. This role leads training, compliance, incident prevention, and field safety execution across active work sites while serving as a trusted advisor to operations leadership. Reporting to the Regional Safety Manager, this position requires a strong field presence, sound judgment, and the ability to influence safe work practices in dynamic environments.

About the Role

The Senior Safety Representative is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and executing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities.

Responsibilities
Field & Operational Safety
  • Promote and reinforce a culture that delivers safe workers and safe workplaces.
  • Conduct documented jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to field operations in executing safe work practices and job briefings.
  • Identify hazards and recommend practical, field-driven corrective actions.
  • Integrate HSE into daily operations and work planning activities.
  • Mentor and support junior safety personnel and field supervisors on HSE best practices.
  • Lead incident prevention initiatives.
  • Lead incident and injury investigations, including:
  • Fact-finding and root cause analysis
  • Corrective action development and tracking
Training & Workforce Development
  • Conduct safety orientation and training in a timely, professional manner.
  • Reinforce safety expectations through field engagement and coaching.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of safety training programs.
Administrative & Compliance
  • Maintain and support safety documentation and recordkeeping, including training certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • OSHA and DOT regulations
  • Company policies and client requirements
  • Track and support corrective actions, audits, and training records.
  • Prioritize internal and external customer service in all safety interactions.
  • Support internal and external safety audits and regulatory inspections as needed.
Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of progressive experience in construction, utility, industrial, or related environmental health and safety roles.
  • Advanced working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience leading jobsite safety inspections, audits, and compliance initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with operational leadership.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% within the Hudson Valley region.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving standards.
Preferred Skills
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred; CHST, CUSP, ASP, CSP, or other recognized professional safety certifications strongly preferred.
  • Experience in urban work environments (traffic and pedestrian control).
  • Familiarity with utility operations, civil construction, or gas construction.
  • Experience leading jobsite inspections and audits.
  • Experience leading incident investigations.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training and orientations.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent follow-up and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
