Job summary

Southwest Airlines is seeking a Senior Safety Programs Specialist to lead and improve occupational safety programs across our Safety organization. You will partner with stakeholders to drive compliance, assess program effectiveness, and implement enhancements that strengthen safety and operational readiness.

You will monitor performance, address emerging risks, and mentor the Safety Programs Specialist team while leveraging OSHA expertise to influence change and foster a safety‑driven culture

Qualifications

• Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Safety regulations and resources.
• Strong verbal and written communications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with Safety Programs and Safety Management Systems.
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification or equivalent safety training.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert on OSHA safety issues and programs.
• Develop, review and maintain Company Safety Programs, including administration/oversee safety programs.
• Evaluate and update Safety policies, procedures and compliance programs as part of Safety Management System.
• Respond to issues from the Field and Corporate departments with guidance based on regulations and company policy.
• Review internal/external communications to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Stay up to date with regulatory requirements and develop Safety programs as needed.
• Assist Field Support Team with OSHA letters, site inspections and citations.
• Mentor Safety Programs Specialist Team members.
• Collaborate with SWA University and Operating Departments to develop effective Safety training.
• May perform other duties as directed by Leaders.
