Job summary

Yates Construction seeks a dedicated safety professional to implement safety plans, communicate standards, and coordinate safety initiatives across projects in Norfolk and beyond. This role focuses on incident investigation, training, PPE compliance, and OSHA standards adherence, with responsibility for reporting, inspections, contractor support, and promoting Yates Core Values.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years of industry experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years in occupational health and safety.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards.
• Proven track record in the delivery of safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Implement safety plans and supporting documentation.
• Communicate safety issues and standards.
• Coordinate safety initiatives for Yates and Projects as required.
• Safety reporting and analysis versus Yates leading and lagging targets to Project Management.
• Health programs including fitness for and return to work.
• Safety training and competency assessment, including onboarding and inductions.
• Incident classification, notification investigation, and close out of all actions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Safety assurance and verification.
• Contractor evaluation and support as required.
• Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles.
• Follow Yates Code of Conduct.
• Refuse unsafe work and ensure work follows established safety procedures.
• Report all incidents, near hits and hazards to management.
• Wear and maintain PPE.
• Participate in workplace inspections.
• Comply with statutory requirements and duty of care.
• Participate in required trainings and provide safety improvement suggestions.
• Attend safety meetings and contribute.
• Assist with administering the site safety program and OSHA compliance.
