Job summary

W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company seeks a Safety Professional to serve as the on-site safety representative for a Federal Construction Project at Fort Hood, TX.

The role partners with project leadership, subcontractors, and client representatives to implement and maintain an industry-leading safety program aligned with OSHA and EM 385-1-1 standards, and to drive safety initiatives across the site.

Safety Professional (Federal Construction Project)

Location: Fort Hood, TX

Position Summary

The Safety Professional will serve as the on-site safety representative and partner closely with project leadership, subcontractors, and client representatives to implement and maintain an industry-leading safety program. The successful candidate will drive safety initiatives, perform inspections, conduct training, and ensure full compliance with OSHA requirements, EM 385-1-1 standards, and project-specific safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and administer the project-specific Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Program.
• Promote a culture where safety is a core value and integral part of daily operations.
• Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Lead safety orientations for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
• Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and ongoing training programs.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, EM 385-1-1 requirements, corporate safety policies, and federal contract requirements.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, documenting findings and corrective actions.
• Excavation and trenching
• Crane and rigging operations
• Fall protection
• Confined space entry
• Energized work and lockout/tagout
• Heavy equipment operations
• Review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), permits, and work plans.
• Track safety metrics and prepare reports for project leadership and government stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with project management and field supervision to proactively resolve safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate safety documentation and project records.
• Assist with environmental compliance requirements as applicable.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of construction safety experience for Safety Professional level.
• 7+ years of construction safety experience for Senior Safety Professional or Safety Manager level.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with craft professionals, subcontractors, project leadership, and client representatives.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
• Ability to walk active construction sites and perform field inspections.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on Federal, DoD, USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, or other government-funded construction projects.
• Current EM 385-1-1 knowledge and application experience.
• CHST, CSP, ASP, STSC, or related safety certification.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field.
• Security clearance or ability to obtain one preferred.
• Regular walking of large project sites.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support project operations.
