Job summary

Transdev is seeking a Senior Safety Manager – Compliance to lead safety and operational oversight for the Boston Public Schools transportation contract. This role drives safety programs, training, and compliance across the operation, reporting safety metrics and coordinating investigations with senior leadership.

The position requires extensive knowledge of DOT/FMCSA/OSHA/EPA/ADA rules, strong leadership, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license. Satisfactory driving history.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred for related field.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees safety incidents and investigations; reports to leadership; coaches staff and enforces policies.
  • Manages Safety and Training Department, including scheduling and documentation of training.
  • Oversees DriveCam program to enhance safety and reduce incidents.
  • Ensures compliance with federal/state regulations and record keeping requirements.
  • Coordinates Accident Review Committee hearings and safety audits.

Transdev Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Safety Manager – Compliance for its Boston Public Schools (BPS) transportation contract. The Senior Safety Manager – Operations Compliance is responsible for providing operational oversight, safety, and service quality for the transportation services we provide to BPS, schools, students, and families.

  • Compensation package of $92,000 - 112,000 per year (exempt).

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees all safety incidents and investigations, reports both incidents and accidents to senior leadership as needed and ensures open communications daily with BPS; supports daily operations; provides employees with coaching, counseling, tools and information; and ensures enforcement of workplace policies and procedures using progressive disciplinary steps, when needed.

  • Manages the site Safety and Training Department including but not limited to: all aspects of site safety training; classroom and behind-the-wheel training schedules, logistics and documentation; and personnel and qualification files pertaining to training, safety and loss matters.

  • Oversees the DriveCam program to increase safety awareness and decrease accidents, near misses, and risky behavior.

  • Manages the Safety Desk and Road Safety Supervisors to ensure prompt deployments, responses, and reporting for all incidents and accidents.

  • Ensures that all reporting and risk management tools, including WebRisk, are always up to date and correct.

  • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential.

  • Reviews all accident-related information and coordinates hearings for the Accident Review Committee.

  • Communicates company programs, rules, and tools related to safety.

  • Ensures contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company/client regulations; ensures that related record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained; provides support in implementing the approved recommendations.

  • Ensures that safety meetings are held on a regular basis and documentation of the meetings is properly maintained; oversees the system safety program to ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements.

  • Sets the tone for the location as the expert in EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), CDL compliance and regulations.

  • Oversees the successful completion of all safety related reviews/audits.

  • Coaches and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs as required.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.

  • Performs other duties and projects as required.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • A satisfactory driving history.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Public Administration, or related field preferred.

  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements preferred.

  • A Massachusetts School Bus Trainer Certificate preferred.

  • Applicable professional certifications preferred.

Experience Required
  • Five (5) years of experience in passenger transit safety or training.

  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience in passenger transit safety or training.

Experience Preferred
  • Driver training experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules and regulations.

  • Must have excellent computer skills and be functional with various types of software including Microsoft Office.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to explain and present regulations to others.

  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy, and possess good judgement and discretion.

  • Must be familiar with defensive driving programs.

  • Must be able to create, retrieve and maintain information and reports.

  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.

  • Must have proven customer service and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers on all levels.

  • Ability to manage and work effectively with a diverse workforce.

  • Ability to influence people at all levels of the organization.
