Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Safety Process Engineer – AMR Execution to lead safety design and certification for autonomous mobile robotics. You will work with software, controls, electrical, product, and supplier teams to ensure regulatory compliance and robust safety performance across hardware and software components.

The role emphasizes risk assessment, structured documentation, and cross‑functional collaboration to enable safe, scalable AMR systems in real‑world environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Professional experience in functional safety, system safety, machine safety, safety‑rated circuit design, or a closely related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience supporting or coordinating safety activities for complex electromechanical systems, industrial automation, robotics platforms, or similar products.
• Working knowledge of ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 12100, ISO 3691-4, ANSI B56.5, UL, or related frameworks.
• Experience in creating or reviewing structured safety documentation and validation evidence for certification or compliance.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including risk assessment, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
• Strong cross‑functional communication skills with engineering organizations and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Build and execute safety design requirements across autonomous mobile robotics programs with cross‑functional teams.
• Develop, maintain, and organize safety deliverables including requirements specs, hazard analyses, risk assessments, and validation documentation.
• Own product certification efforts from planning through execution and coordinate with external partners.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate safety by design across sensors and architectures.
• Contribute to verification and validation strategies to demonstrate safety performance levels.
• Review designs, wiring diagrams, safety functions, and validation results to identify gaps and risks.
• Plan and execute safety process activities to move programs through g‑Risk and green tag readiness.
• Track open safety issues and drive cross‑functional teams to closure.
