Job summary

Mortenson Construction seeks a Senior Safety Engineer to implement the Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project sites in the United States. The role offers Level I and II tracks, with compensation based on experience and location.

The position requires overseeing safety programs, audits, OSHA reporting, and collaboration with clients, unions, and risk engineers. Travel up to 100% is possible, and sponsorship is not offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, or equivalent.
  • Or High school diploma with CHST Certification, OSHA 500, and a minimum of 10 years construction experience leading crews and planning work, to include at least six years as a dedicated construction safety professional responsible for managing project safety programs, conducting/reviewing hazard analyses and developing controls, conducting safety training, and planning work activities or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of four years of construction safety experience.
  • Current valid driver's license.
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant safety software programs.
  • Positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies effectively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 100%.

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Safety Engineer responsible for implementing Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project sites and ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site. The position offers opportunities at both Level 1 and Level 2, allowing candidates to apply based on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

RESPONSIBILITIES

COMPENSATION & LOCATION

Senior Safety Engineer I: base pay range $89,500 Min - $120,800 Max

Senior Safety Engineer II: base pay range $95,700 Min - $129,200 Max

Actual range is higher for Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (+5%), Seattle, WA and Portland, OR (+10%), Washington, D.C. (+12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
