Job summary

Advanced Veterinary Specialists (AVS) in California is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician Learning & Development Specialist to lead clinical training and mentorship. You will train Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants while practicing advanced nursing skills directly with patients.

The role emphasizes hands-on education, high standards of aseptic technique, and collaboration with hospital leadership.

Qualifications

• Active, current California RVT license.
• Extensive hands-on veterinary technician experience, preferably in Emergency, Critical Care or Specialty.
• Advanced proficiency in veterinary nursing and ability to teach senior-level clinical skills.
• Strong experience with vascular catheter placement, anesthesia, monitoring and recovery.
• Experience training, mentoring, precepting, or developing Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants.
• Excellent aseptic technique, infection prevention and hospital sanitation standards.
• Availability to work four 10-hour shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Work hands-on as an RVT while serving as a clinical trainer and mentor.
• Demonstrate proficiency in advanced nursing skills including catheter placement, anesthesia, monitoring and recovery.
• Train team on equipment and safety procedures.
• Provide hands-on training in patient assessment, critical care, medication administration, and emergency response.
• Assess competencies, identify training opportunities, and develop learning plans.
• Teach aseptic technique, sterile preparation, and infection prevention.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and medical record documentation.
• Support onboarding and clinical orientation of new staff.
• Develop in-services, skill demonstrations, and continuing education opportunities.
• Provide constructive feedback and adapt training to learner needs.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and leadership to identify training needs.
• Track competency assessments and training sign-offs.
