Job summary

Talent Wave Associates is seeking a Regulatory Analyst to shape electric transmission policy within RTOs, focusing on planning, cost allocation, system operations, reliability, and resource adequacy for the Southwest Power Pool and other RTOs.

You will represent the company in stakeholder processes, provide regulatory analysis to leadership, and advance advocacy efforts with growing autonomy in a hybrid work environment. Strong communication skills and collaboration across teams are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; graduate degree in Public Policy preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Regulatory Analyst or similar role, preferably in energy utility regulation.

  • Research, analyse, and report on RTO transmission policy issues to support timely decision-making.
  • Represent the company in RTO stakeholder processes and industry events, coordinating with Regulatory Strategy, Rates, Federal Affairs, and Legal teams.
  • Provide regulatory analysis and insights to internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Support and lead advocacy efforts on transmission policy matters with growing autonomy.
  • Prepare, organize, and disseminate RTO-related policy information and participate in internal briefings.
  • Collaborate across teams to assess policy impacts and advance company interests.

About the Role

This position provides critical analysis of electric transmission policy topics, focusing on planning, cost allocation, system operations, reliability, and resource adequacy within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) and other RTOs. It exists to ensure informed decision-making and strategic advocacy in RTO-related matters. The role contributes to the organization by representing the company in RTO stakeholder processes and advancing company interests through effective communication and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, analyse, and report on RTO transmission policy issues to support timely decision-making.
  • Represent the company in RTO stakeholder processes and industry events, coordinating with Regulatory Strategy, Rates, Federal Affairs, and Legal teams.
  • Provide regulatory analysis and insights to internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Support and lead advocacy efforts on transmission policy matters with growing autonomy.
  • Prepare, organize, and disseminate RTO-related policy information and participate in internal briefings.
  • Collaborate across teams to assess policy impacts and advance company interests.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; graduate degree in Public Policy preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Regulatory Analyst or in a similar role, preferably in energy utility regulation.
  • Experience with SPP tariffs, business practice manuals, policies, or FERC preferred but not required.
  • Strong ability to interpret RTO tariffs and policies and assess their impact.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information.
  • Political sensitivity and interpersonal skills to navigate complex stakeholder processes.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, including overnight stays.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
