Job summary

Genie in Redmond, WA, is hiring a Software Engineer III to own significant control-system deliverables for robotics hardware. You will design vehicle control architectures, implement ROS2 control interfaces, and develop real-time algorithms on embedded platforms.

The role requires strong robotics and control theory knowledge, embedded systems experience, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. Hybrid work with three days in-person is offered along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Education in robotics, CS, ME, or mechatronics (BS/MS).
• Strong background in classical and modern control theory; vehicle dynamics.
• Experience with ROS2, ros2_control, hardware interfaces and node lifecycle.
• Embedded systems experience in distributed control for mobile/industrial robots.
• Hands-on with CAN bus (J1939/CANopen), I2C, SPI, RS485.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement vehicle control architecture on high-performance embedded Linux platform.
• Develop ROS2 control interfaces and drivers for hardware boards via CAN-FD, I2C, SPI, UART.
• Design and tune closed-loop control algorithms (PID, MPC, LQR) for vehicle dynamics.
• Integrate sensors (IMUs, encoders, LiDAR, GPS) and perform sensor fusion for accurate state estimation.
• Model and control nonlinear hydraulic systems (valves, pumps, cylinders).
