Job summary

Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. is seeking a Senior/Staff Robotics Software Engineer to help build autonomous surgical robotic systems guided by AI and imaging.

You will design and verify mission-critical software modules, enforce deterministic timing, and optimize latency and throughput of the controls platform. The role involves working closely with clinicians and engineers in a fast-paced startup environment, on-site in California, with a focus on high reliability and potential medical device

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years (Senior) / 8+ years (Staff) in C++ robot controls software development.
• Experience deploying and testing software in a Linux environment.
• Prior experience with mission-critical software and medical device development is a plus.
• Embedded C/C++ experience is useful.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robot controls software with real-time safe data transfer and observability.
• Optimize the controls data pipeline across PCs with network and DDS QoS configuration.
• Bridge timing gaps between non-deterministic IPC and deterministic event loops.
• Collaborate with control algorithm engineers to improve control loop performance.
• Engage in pair programming, code reviews, and design discussions to maintain high standards.
