Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Sr Software Engineer to work on robotics control and scheduling applications in a laboratory environment. The role involves moving mechanisms with servos and pumps, designing software for robotic medical devices, and ensuring safe, reliable performance.

The ideal candidate has strong C/C++/C# or Python skills, experience with motion control, RTOS (QNX), and CI/CD practices. Location: Irving, TX; Lake Forest, IL; travel < 5%.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree with 10+ years of related experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of related experience.
• Master’s Degree with 4+ years of related experience.
• Advanced experience in designing and developing complex software systems.
• Ability to provide guidance to junior team members.
• Advanced knowledge in modern programming languages such as C/C++/C# or Python & agile methodologies.
• Advanced level of understanding of CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software that controls robotic medical devices following established processes and healthcare regulations.
• Participate in software development activities including design, coding, testing, and validation.
• Support testing efforts to verify software requirements and quality standards.
• Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to define requirements and document design/testing activities.
• Develop and maintain low-level software enabling hardware components to communicate.
• Create application-level software to automate robotic systems and manage device behavior.
• Assist in evaluating designs through testing and full documentation of results.
• Investigate on-market issues and implement corrections within the software process.
