SR2 | Socially Responsible Recruitment | Certified B Corporation™ in the Bay Area is seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to own production robotics software on real hardware and shape how problems are solved from day one.

You’ll code in modern C++ (17/20) and Python, work across ROS2 with perception, planning and controls, and ship features end-to-end with direct collaboration with mechanical, electrical and firmware engineers.

Qualifications

Senior Robotics Software Engineer | Bay Area, CA (onsite / hybrid)

Most robotics jobs are 20% robotics. You inherit a codebase, you maintain a node someone else wrote, and you spend your week in review cycles for a feature that ships in Q3.

This isn't that. You'll be given a hard problem, real hardware, and the authority to decide how it gets solved. Modern C++, ROS2, and a team small enough that your architecture decisions actually stick.

What you'll be doing

• Designing and building production robotics software in modern C++ (17/20) and Python
• Working across the stack in ROS2: perception, planning, controls, and the plumbing that ties them together
• Taking features from spec to deployed and validated on real hardware, including the debugging at 11pm in the lab
• Setting the technical bar for how the team builds: architecture, code review, testing on real robots
• Working directly with mechanical, electrical and firmware engineers rather than through a ticket queue

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with the majority of it in robotics or autonomy
• Strong modern C++. You should be comfortable talking about why you made a design choice, not just that it works
• Solid Python for tooling, simulation and analysis
• Real production ROS2 experience, not a university project or a ROS1 port you inherited
• Evidence you've owned something end to end and shipped it onto physical hardware
• Comfortable with ambiguity and with being the person who decides

Nice to have

• Experience taking a robot from prototype to fleet deployment
• Linux systems, CI for robotics, hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure
