Job summary

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Senior Staff, Product Safety Engineer to lead safety assurance across hardware, software, firmware, controls, AI/ML and HRI for legged robots. You will shape safety strategies, define safety requirements, and ensure robust evidence across the product lifecycle.

The role requires 6+ years in product safety and system safety with strong cross-functional collaboration. Travel up to 10% may be required as part of verification and global standards alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical/Systems Engineering or Robotics
• 6+ years in product safety, safety assurance, V&V in safety-critical fields
• Understanding of AI/ML safety implications and AI-enabled systems V&V
• Demonstrated V&V expertise with test strategy, coverage, and objective safety evidence
• Strong systems engineering across hardware, software, firmware, controls, sensors, actuators
• Experience with safety certification, regulatory submissions, audits or external safety assessments

Responsibilities

• Provide safety assurance across the full technical stack and support safety gate sign-off for new capabilities
• Develop and evaluate V&V strategies, acceptance criteria, test coverage, and evidence of safety
• Prepare recommendations and evaluate safety analyses, mitigations, and readiness evidence
• Evaluate safety implications of releases, firmware updates, model/config changes, safety impact
• Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and field learning integration
• Collaborate with Safety Case owners to ensure consistency and evidence quality
• Translate regulations and standards into internal safety policy and procedures
