Job summary

Brain Corp, a San Diego-based AI company, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture of the Hardware Abstraction Layer and core C++ middleware powering autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). You will drive HAL re-architecture, sensor integration, and high-performance execution on embedded systems while mentoring engineers and ensuring scalable deployment across a global fleet.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in robotics or embedded platforms.
• Leadership in architectural changes on production systems.
• Expert in modern C++ (C++11+).

Responsibilities

• Lead HAL architecture for modularity and scalability.
• Oversee HAL migration for next-gen hardware.
• Develop telemetry and replay systems for observability and data quality.
• Migrate middleware from Python to high-performance C++.
• Architect and develop C++ middleware for sensors, compute, and autonomy.
• Integrate new hardware components (LiDARs, cameras, IMUs).
• Optimize latency, throughput, and memory usage across stack.
• Collaborate with hardware, apps, autonomy, and QA teams.
• Mentor engineers and drive code quality and testing.
