Job summary

Brain Corp in San Diego, CA is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of in-house robot software applications and mentor a team of engineers. You will focus on Python and C++ development, build interfaces and workflows, and deploy robust software for our next generation AMRs.

You will drive technical excellence, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate across hardware, firmware and cloud to deliver scalable robotics software.

Position Overview

The Staff Software Engineer plays a key role for the Software Engineering Applications team, leading the development for our in-house robot software applications. With a strong technical acumen and an excellent background in Python and C++ development, you will help lead a team of committed engineers to build interfaces and workflows, integrate state-of-the-art autonomy features, and deploy robust, safe, and scalable software application solutions for our next generation of products. You will identify performance bottlenecks, coordinate with cross-functional teams on simulation and control, and prioritize projects and tasks for the benefit of our end customers.

Essential Job Functions
  • Define, architect, and develop our in-house robot software applications
  • Serve as a technical lead by mentoring junior engineers, providing high-quality feedback on designs and code reviews, and driving technical excellence through clean, reusable code
  • Proactively identify and communicate technical risks, provide clear project status updates, and continuously improve software development processes
  • Drive impact as a significant code contributor, developing extensible, maintainable, and scalable application value for robots deployed worldwide
  • Improve software application performance through profiling, debugging, and testing
  • Support integration of state-of-the-art autonomy features (deep learning models and pipelines, state-of-the-art mapping, perception, and motion planning algorithms)
  • Take ownership and initiative for improving the quality of the software applications and architectures
  • Work across disciplines (Hardware, Firmware, Cloud), coordinate multiple initiatives, and architect efficient and reusable solutions for various robot product lines
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related engineering discipline
  • 7-8+ years of demonstrated experience in software development for complex systems interacting with sensors inputs or control-loops
  • 1-2+ years of demonstrated software technical leadership experience
  • Experience writing Python applications and knowledge of Python constructs and internals

Salary Range

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $187,182 to $201,221. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Brain Corp is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
