Job description

ATCS is seeking a multi-faceted Senior Roadway Design Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, NC. This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week required onsite in the Raleigh office and up to 2 days working remotely. This position will perform a variety of tasks at the direction of a project manager or other senior staff related to transportation design for public agencies (NCDOT, Municipalities, etc.). The diversity of responsibilities and actual tasks require a flexible mindset and cooperative team-oriented, can-do attitude to support our project teams, the design department, and ATCS.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Planning and design of transportation-related facilities.
  2. Familiarity with the NCDOT Roadway Design Manual and AASHTO Policy on Geometric Design.
  3. Support of Senior Staff in mentoring younger staff and helping grow the office.
  4. Project Management.
  5. Preparing various stages of construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  6. Drafting technical reports.
  7. Coordination with subconsultants on project design.
  8. QA/QC of design submissions and associated documentation.
  9. Generating scopes of work and man-day estimates.
  10. Conducting field visits during design or construction.
  11. Participating in client and public meetings.
  12. Project financials, invoicing, and preparation of progress reports.

Required Skills:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  2. 10+ years' experience in the field of transportation engineering.
  3. NC PE required. If the PE license is not in NC, must have the ability to get reciprocity.
  4. Has led or has had a major role in the completion of project delivery for NCDOT.
  5. Familiar with the NCDOT Project Delivery Network.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and able to thrive in a busy environment with multiple assignments.
  8. The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational skills.
  9. Demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  10. Demonstrate experience with MicroStation V8i, Geopak, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and ConceptStation.

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $88,000 to $132,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary.
