Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation in Cherokee is seeking a proactive Construction Technician Senior to guide the Cherokee Resident Construction Engineer office. You will lead project inspections, material certification, and contract documentation for complex roadway construction efforts.

The role combines field leadership with hands-on technical work, requires high data entry proficiency, and offers public-facing liaison duties with officials and contractors.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED and five years of full-time work in engineering survey, construction inspection, materials inspection, materials testing or the building construction trades.
• One year of full-time work experience in engineering survey, construction inspection, materials inspection, materials testing or the building construction trades; plus a total of four years of education/experience where 30 semester hours counts as one year of experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Construction Technician or Highway Technician Senior.

Responsibilities

• Managing and communicating daily inspection and administrative operations with supervisor oversight
• Ensuring work is completed according to the plans, specifications, and contract documents
• Tracking and communicating project updates to a variety of parties
• Acting as the liaison with Iowa DOT staff, government officials, contractors, and the public
• Maintaining detailed records of all project activities, such as vouchers, as-builts, and progress reports, by performing mathematical calculations to ensure compliance
