Job summary

Gordon Brothers in New York is seeking a senior underwriter to lead underwriting and risk assessment of complex commercial lease and loan transactions. You will prepare analyses, offering memoranda, and defend credit decisions while mentoring junior staff.

The role requires eight+ years of experience, a degree in Accounting/Finance, and strong MS Excel/Word and financial spreading skills; a competitive package includes base salary and bonus and benefits.

Qualifications

• Concentration in Accounting and/or Finance preferred; required for applicants with no prior relevant work experience.
• Proficient knowledge with MS Word and Excel.
• Strong to exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Minimum of eight (8) years foundational experience; prior credit authority.
• Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS, BBA, etc.) with a concentration in Accounting and/or Finance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review terms and conditions of exposures between $1,000,000 and $25,000,000; assess obligor strength and credit structures.
• Assist in managing workflow and assignments of credit actions with the Director of Risk & Credit.
• Prepare financial statement spreads and review adequacy of supporting data.
• Review DSCR and LTV; identify missing information for credit decisions.
• Prepare Credit Offering Memoranda covering financial and risk elements and risk rating.
• Review and approve actions by junior/mid-level staff; advise senior when outside authority.
• Participate in business opportunity meetings to identify potential investments.
• Develop portfolio monitoring reports and ensure timely risk rating accuracy.
• Mentor and train junior underwriting staff; support performance feedback.
• Back up Director on selected management and workflow tasks.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Prepare annual reviews.
• Assist with departmental duties as directed.
