Job description

K2 Space is building large, high-powered spacecraft for space development. Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Altimeter Capital, and others, we have raised $180M to date. Our goal is to mass produce the highest-powered satellite platforms for missions from LEO to Deep Space.

The rise of launch vehicles like Falcon 9 and Starship enables a move from mass constraint to mass abundance. We believe this new era requires spacecraft with a fundamentally different design to fully utilize these rockets.

Our team focuses on building large, high-powered satellites capable of handling multiple orbits, essential for solar system development and becoming a Kardashev Type II civilization.

The Role

You will lead the design, development, and integration of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for communication systems on some of the most powerful satellites ever deployed in space. In your first 6 months, you will architect, develop, test, and integrate new DSP algorithms and software-defined radio (SDR) systems. Over the next two years, your system will have flown in space.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of DSP algorithms for embedded devices and SDRs
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop SDR systems
  • Act as a technical leader, mentoring others in the team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in RF digital communications and DSP systems
  • Knowledge of DSP concepts such as modems, channelizers, Doppler compensation, and filtering
  • Understanding of digital communication theories and systems
  • Experience with signal detection topologies and filter implementations
  • Experience with GNUradio and SDRs in simulation and hardware
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with FPGA design for RF applications
  • Knowledge of phased array synthesis, digital beamforming, and related algorithms
  • Experience with SIGINT, EW, and satellite telecommunications
  • Experience with channel emulators and system-level simulations
  • Experience with SDR hardware development and data converters
  • Experience with hardware and DSP algorithm integration and monitoring

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $140,000 - $200,000 + equity
  • Based on experience and skills
