Job summary

Westchester Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner to administer respiratory therapies in all patient care areas. You will initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, perform ABG collection, and supervise pulmonary function testing, while ensuring safety and adherence to infection control policies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA approved program for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and requires NBRC certification.
• Associate Degree of Applied Science or higher in Respiratory Care required.

Responsibilities

• Implements therapeutic and diagnostic modalities offered by the department and assesses patient response.
• Provides continuous mechanical ventilation including weaning, PEEP/CPAP, bedside weaning, spirometry and ventilation methods.
• Knowledge of respiratory care drug administration, indications, contraindications, adverse reactions and side effects.
• Obtains arterial blood gases from radial and brachial sites; collects arterial line samples; maintains ABG equipment and reports critical values; adheres to infection control policies.
• Knowledge of artificial airways and tracheal extubation; performs suctioning as appropriate.
• Maintains documentation and enters charges in the hospital information system.
• Participates in quality initiatives and teaching plans to patients and families.
• Performs specialized diagnostic testing, including Pulmonary Function Tests; conducts bedside screenings; assists with intubation and placement verification.
