Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with six years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, asset valuation, risk management, and PPA structures.
  • Quantitative training in data science, math, or statistics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply data science to energy market challenges and support the wholesale power portfolio.
  • Develop an Energy Data Warehouse, audit data quality, and establish automated data pipelines.
  • Lead project teams in testing enhancements and ensure alignment with performance needs.
  • Develop analytics models for forward curves, volatility, VaR, stress tests, and portfolio optimization.
  • Create analytics tools and dashboards to improve financial reporting and decision making.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Resource Specialist (Energy Market Analytics), an experienced professional that will apply data science to energy market challenges. You’ll support Metropolitan's wholesale power portfolio within specific energy-focused areas such as: Data Management, Energy Risk Management, Market Analysis, Forecasting, and Optimization Modeling. Partnering with internal teams, this role will drive the modernization of Metropolitan's energy data management processes to support the transition to an emissions-free future.

What You’ll Do:
  • Collaborate with internal staff and external consultants to develop an Energy Data Warehouse, including an audit of existing data to document quality gaps, development of an energy data dictionary, and establish pipelines to automate data acquisition.
  • Lead project teams in testing and validating analytical enhancements to ensure they meet performance and business requirements.
  • Provide quantitative analytics expertise for Metropolitan's wholesale electric power portfolio including market price forecasting, resource optimization, and modeling complex deal structures to identify new business opportunities and enhance long-term resource planning.
  • Support energy risk management analytics functions by developing analytical models for: forward curve validation, volatility analysis, Value-At-Risk and stress-testing, and portfolio optimization.
  • Develop analytics tools and dashboards to improve financial reporting, portfolio performance, and decision making.

Schedule:

44/36, Monday through Friday /Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6am and end times are no later than 6pm.

Hybrid:

Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, majoring in a related field and eight years of relevant experience

OR

an advanced degree from an accredited college or university, majoring in a related field and six years of relevant experience.

Relevant Experience:

Experience with wholesale energy supply and demand structures; financial modeling and analysis; evaluating wholesale electricity markets to identify trends, impacts on asset value, and risks; and valuation and energy risk management approaches for generation assets.

DESIRABLES:
  • Experience in asset valuation, risk management, or trading, specifically focusing on Western US wholesale markets, renewable energy/storage assets, and PPA structures.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent work experience in a highly quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Math, Statistics).
  • Experience using Python, R, or SQL to build, scale, and operationalize automated analytical models and pipelines in cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated experience using data visualization tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
