Job summary

AAA Engineering, Ltd. in Chicago seeks a Senior Resident Engineer to lead construction oversight on transit, roadway, and bridge projects funded by local, state, and federal sources. You will manage field activities, prepare documentation per IDOT, and coordinate with clients to resolve issues on time.

The role requires 10–20 years of construction experience, an Illinois PE license or eligibility within 6 months, and strong communication skills for supervising staff and subconsultants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management is required.
• 10–20 years of construction experience.
• Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Certified in IDOT's Documentation of Contract Quantities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with IDOT, CDOT and/or Illinois Tollway projects.

Responsibilities

• Resident Engineer on transportation projects involving transit, roadway, bridge, and underground works funded by local, state, and federal sources.
• Prepare all construction documentation per IDOT policies and procedures using CMMS or equivalent.
• Oversee field personnel and contractors to ensure work conforms to plans and specs.
• Manage field activities including layout, inspection, documentation, and pay estimates.
• Oversee project closeout and resolve conflicts or deficiencies as needed.
• Measure and calculate pay item quantities, prepare contractor pay applications, and prepare construction record drawings.
• Develop change orders and pay estimates; evaluate constructability and prevent contractor claims.
• Coordinate with the client through daily or weekly reporting, preconstruction meetings, and issue resolution.
• Work with and manage other team members and subconsultants as needed.
