Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Honolulu, HI seeks a Senior Resident Engineer to lead on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to design intent, quality standards, and contract requirements. You will supervise junior staff and coordinate with the Design Project Manager to drive project goals.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering/construction tech and at least 10 years of multidisciplinary construction experience, with strong reading/interpretation of drawings and effective communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Familiarity with contracts, codes, and laws governing construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills. Sponsorship for US employment is not available.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of contractor activities including labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Review construction materials for contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
  • Attend and chair construction progress meetings.
  • Observe installation and acceptance testing of equipment and systems.
  • Identify nonconforming work and develop punchlists.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review and acceptance.
  • Assist with project audit and closeout.
  • Supervise junior Resident Project Representatives and inspectors.

Senior Resident Engineer

In this role, the Senior Resident Engineer will lead onsite construction activities, ensuring compliance with design intent, quality standards, and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities, including labor, equipment, and materials used.
  • Review construction materials for contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems.
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists, and maintain until corrected.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
  • Assist with project audit and closeout.
  • Work under general supervision of a Design Project Manager.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services, and subconsultants.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to provide solutions.
Required Qualifications

Benefits & Compensation

The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and geographical location. Honolulu, Hawaii: $102,000 – $147,000.
