Job description

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates pre‑construction submittal process with project governing agencies
  • Actively tracks field quantities and logs them into the project management system
  • Assists the Project Manager in managing day‑to‑day field operations
  • Has a basic understanding of the contract, bid assumptions, plans, specifications, DBE’s, subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Participates in planning and scheduling, and assists with establishing the project schedule
  • Coordinates and participates in team meetings, scheduling key agenda times
  • Utilizes and interprets the schedule to determine extensions or acceleration due to weather, change orders or delays
  • Manages all required contractual documentation including incoming/outgoing correspondence, daily reports, weekly progress, drawings, submittals, subcontracts, purchase orders, payment requests and invoices
  • Performs surveying functions (pre‑job, post‑job, survey logs, GPS modeling)
  • Prepares applications for payment, follows up to ensure timely payment and release of retention, and understands contract payment terms
  • Reviews, inputs and monitors job quantities required for cost accounting systems and payment applications
  • Schedules and coordinates submittal data (show drawings, photos, material certificates, test reports) in a timely manner
  • Advises the Project Team of potential contract changes and, as directed, notifies the owner in writing of any changes
  • Co‑ordinates with public utility companies and secures necessary permits before work dates
  • Develops the Site Logistics Plan prior to commencement of work
  • Performs minor drafting and editing of plans (As‑Builts, Paving Plans, Temporary Traffic Control Plans) as directed or demonstrates willingness and capacity to learn
  • Assists with project safety, helping to implement a thorough safety program
  • Ensures equipment is used safely (e.g., planning critical lifts with cranes) and that tools and equipment being charged to the project are utilized efficiently
  • Maintains a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Coordinates the close‑out process in conformance with operational procedures
  • Understands legal requirements and Grace Pacific’s policy requirements; learns, understands and maintains knowledge of current laws, contract requirements, and Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality standards
  • Complies with laws and policies including protecting the project, adjacent properties and endangered species; disposing of waste materials; obtaining required permits; notifying utility owners; responding to and documenting environmental incidents
Skills & Knowledge
  • Math aptitude to perform daily tasks
  • Ability to read and comprehend contract documents, job specifications, blueprints and other technical/legal information
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license with a favorable traffic abstract
  • Degree in engineering, preferably structural, mechanical or civil; a Master of Science degree or equivalent work experience is preferred
  • 1–2 years of work experience at the Junior Construction Engineer Level, or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Email and aptitude to learn relevant systems
Compensation

$70,000 – $75,000 per year
