Job summary

Penn State University’s Bordenstein Laboratory seeks a Research Technologist (Advanced Professional) to design, implement, and report rigorous host–microbe research using Drosophila transgenic expression, genetic editing, and fluorescence microscopy. The role emphasizes hands-on experiments and effective team management.

You will oversee data collection and biostatistics, contribute to papers and grants, mentor trainees, and maintain biosafety, records, and lab operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; 3+ years relevant experience preferred.
• Independent experimental design, implementation, analysis, and reporting.
• Data collection, statistics, and visualization knowledge.
• Coauthorship of scientific papers and grants encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement experiments in host–microbiome research.
• Perform tissue dissections, staining, and microscopy.
• Manage trainees and ensure biosafety and record keeping.
• Analyze data and generate visualizations for reports and publications.
• Support lab management and scheduling, maintain equipment.
