Job summary

Peraton Labs in Maryland seeks a senior research scientist with active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced prototype systems for mission-focused analytics and real-time processing. This on-site role supports a Maryland-based IC customer near College Park, MD.

You will guide small teams, translate requirements into architectures, and drive prototypes from concept to demonstration while maintaining rigorous development practices and documentation.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience with a Bachelors; 10+ years with a Masters; 8+ years with a PhD in relevant fields, or 16+ years if no degree.
• Strong software prototype development in R&D, defense, or complex technical environments.
• Experience with Python, C, C++, Java, Go or similar languages.
• Experience designing algorithms, APIs, and backend services.
• Experience integrating software components and COTS/GOTS tools.
• Familiarity with GitHub/GitLab, Agile, Jenkins, CI/CD, code review.
• Ability to lead or mentor small teams; strong communication.
• US Citizenship required; TS/SCI w/ Polygraph active.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and enhance advanced software prototypes for mission-focused programs.
• Translate customer requirements into prototype architectures and implementation plans.
• Develop and modify software to improve functionality and performance.
• Integrate existing software, COTS/GOTS tools, open-source components into new environments.
• Debug, test, and validate prototypes; support demonstrations.
• Lead small technical teams and collaborate with stakeholders.
