About the Role

Our client, a cutting-edge research and development organization, is seeking a Senior Research Scientist specializing in nanomaterial synthesis to join their advanced materials division in Upington, Northern Cape. This role is crucial for driving innovation in the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel nanomaterials for a variety of high-technology applications, including energy storage, catalysis, and advanced electronics. The Senior Research Scientist will lead independent research projects, mentor junior team members, and collaborate closely with chemists, physicists, and engineers to translate fundamental discoveries into practical solutions. The ideal candidate possesses a strong theoretical understanding of nanoscale phenomena and extensive hands-on experience with various synthesis techniques and advanced characterization methods. Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemistry (Inorganic, Physical), Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline with a strong focus on nanomaterials.
• A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry research experience in nanomaterial synthesis and characterization.
• Proven expertise in at least two key synthesis methods (e.g., colloidal synthesis, CVD, hydrothermal synthesis).
• Extensive hands-on experience with advanced characterization techniques relevant to nanomaterials.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead research projects from conception to completion.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a strong publication record.
• Experience working in an R&D setting in Upington, Northern Cape.
• Knowledge of applications in energy, catalysis, or electronics is a significant advantage.
