An established institution is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to lead innovative research in neurophysiology. This role involves overseeing federally funded projects, developing new methodologies, and managing a research team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrophysiology and behavioral assays, along with a proven publication record. PhD-trained neuroscientist with at least 3-5 years of postdoctoral research experience in a neurophysiology and behavioral laboratory. The candidate must have documented experience in in vitro brain slice patch clamp electrophysiology, in vivo electrophysiology in anesthetized or awake behaving rodents, in vivo fiber photometry, behavioral assays, and confocal microscopy. A strong publication record with first-author manuscripts is essential. Ability to work independently and manage a research team is expected. Additional experience in Western blot analysis, immunohistochemical staining, imaging, and developing IACUC protocols is a plus.
Duties: The Senior Research Scientist will collaborate closely with Dr. McMahon in planning, directing, and overseeing federally funded research projects using rodent models. They will develop new research areas and methodologies, serving as Dr. McMahon’s key collaborator in research direction and leadership development. The role includes dedicated time for independent experiments and research. The scientist will work with the laboratory manager to ensure research compliance, develop and renew IACUC protocols, and assist in training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in electrophysiology, behavioral techniques, data analysis, manuscript, and grant writing. They will also manage weekly lab meetings, present data, and attend national and international conferences annually.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary position involving extensive computer use. Occasional travel for meetings and programs may be required.
