Job description

About the company

Biorce is a pioneering Healthtech company dedicated to revolutionizing drug development through the power of AI. We are passionate about accelerating medical advancements and improving patient outcomes.

Our team comprises seasoned clinical research professionals, data scientists, and AI experts, working collaboratively to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world clinical needs.

With an unwavering commitment to revolutionize healthcare, we envision a world where all patients benefit from accelerated and cost-effective access to treatments. Biorce is poised to redefine the landscape of healthcare, shaping a future where innovation and accessibility converge for the betterment of humanity.

About the role

We're looking for a curious and rigorous Senior AI Scientist to join our growing AI Open Source team in Austin, Texas. You'll help make our models genuinely state-of-the-art — fine-tuning, evaluating, and serving models that power an AI product transforming how clinical trials are run.

You’ll work at the intersection of ML research and bioscience domain knowledge, building proprietary capabilities rather than wrapping off-the-shelf models. Early on, your work stays internal and battle-tested in production; as the team matures, you’ll help shape our path toward publishing research and releasing open-source work. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced biotech AI startup at an early stage of its growth, as we continue expanding our US presence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fine-tune and evaluate proprietary language models for domain-specific tasks
  • Design and build custom retrieval systems tailored to clinical trial data
  • Own aspects of the production inference stack, balancing quality, latency, and cost
  • Apply reinforcement learning and related techniques to improve model behavior
  • Collaborate with the Data team to define what "good" training and evaluation data looks like
  • Translate applied bioscience and clinical domain knowledge into model and data design decisions
  • Partner with AI Engineers to productionize research improvements
  • Track the research literature and evaluate new techniques for real-world applicability
  • Contribute to publications and open-source releases as the team's work matures
Required Experience & Skills
  • Graduate degree (MS/PhD) or equivalent industry experience in machine learning, NLP, or a related field
  • Experience fine-tuning large language models
  • Strong understanding of modern reinforcement learning techniques for language models
  • Experience with model inference and serving at scale
  • Strong Python and ML framework experience
  • Experience building or working with retrieval systems
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices (experiment tracking, versioning, reproducibility)
  • Ability to read, evaluate, and apply research papers to real product problems
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Background or strong interest in biology, life sciences, or clinical research
  • Publication record at ML/NLP venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ACL, ICML)
  • Experience with model quantization and efficient inference
  • Experience working with knowledge graphs
  • Prior open-source contributions to ML tooling
Who We’re Looking For
  • A researcher who wants to see their work used in production, not just published
  • Someone who enjoys operating at the intersection of ML and domain science
  • Comfortable moving between research exploration and shipping constraints
  • Curious, rigorous, and excited to publish once the work is proven
Why Join Us?
  • The opportunity to help build the talent engine behind a fast-growing Healthtech AI company.
  • A dynamic work environment with an international team, where collaboration and diversity thrive.
  • Work alongside top talent, united by a shared purpose and committed to making a real impact.
  • Comprehensive private health coverage to ensure your physical and mental well-being.
  • Hybrid work model offering flexibility to balance your professional and personal life.
  • Company events to celebrate achievements and enjoy time together.
  • Get equipped with a MacBook to enhance your productivity and work experience.
  • Our office is pet-friendly! You'll likely be greeted by a few wagging tails upon arrival.
