Job summary

The University of Chicago's Biological Sciences Division (BSD) - General Internal Medicine, Laiteerapong Research Staff, seeks a capable research staff member to coordinate multiple projects and oversee daily workflow. You will manage IRB documentation, supervise staff and assist with grant-related tasks.

You will conduct literature reviews, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to manuscripts while supporting health services and pragmatic trials within GIM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field is required.
• 2 years of experience in clinical research studies and related methods preferred.
• Experience coordinating research projects and managing study timelines is essential.

About The Department

General Internal Medicine (GIM) has a rich tradition at The University of Chicago, dating back to the founding of the medical school in 1927. With the rising prominence of the medical subspecialties after World War II, the Department of Medicine reaffirmed its commitment to GIM in 1969: 'Every trainee must receive intensive, comprehensive training in General Medicine as an optimal base for advanced training, whether in a subspecialty or General Internal Medicine.' Under the leadership of Dr. Alvin Tarlov (Chair of Medicine, 1968‑81), The University of Chicago led a national effort to reestablish academic sections of General Internal Medicine. In 1973, the Section of General Internal Medicine was organized to include separate GIM inpatient, outpatient, and consultation services. The Section of General Internal Medicine assumed responsibility for housestaff training and for relationships with community hospitals. A fellowship program was established for trainees interested in academic GIM and educational leadership. With the support from our Department Chairs since 1968, GIM research has flourished at The University of Chicago, with faculty recognized as national leaders in the areas of medical ethics, health economics and policy, health services and outcomes research.

Job Information

• Coordinate and oversee execution of research projects.

• Provide training and oversight to research support personnel, medical students, undergraduate research assistants and volunteers.

• Oversee budget and purchase of study related materials.
• Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and grant reports.
• Help develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan, including electronic health record-based health interventions, health systems-based interventions, and pragmatic trials.
• Ensure project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
• Engage with and serve as the main project contact for stakeholders, partner organizations and clinical sites.
• Perform qualitative interviews with patients and clinicians.
• Develop and analysis of user-centered designed interview.
• Assist with intervention development, evaluation planning, and instrument design and implementation science.
• Oversee development of provider tools and patient education materials.
• Oversee data collection, management and analysis.
• Contribute to strategic planning and new research development.
• Contribute to abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.
• Ensure fidelity to study timeline and goals.

Additional Responsibilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration or other Health related field plus 2 years of experience in clinical research studies required.
• Required: 2 years with: electronic health record-based health interventions; health systems-based interventions, pragmatic trials; development of provider tools and patient education materials; qualitative interviews with patients and clinicians; develop and analysis of user-centered designed interview.
• Education or experience: supporting IRB processes; implementation science; research on opioid use and opioid use disorder, chronic pain management, minoritized populations, engaging community partners.
• Some hybrid work permitted.
• Background check including review of conviction history required.
