UL Inclusive Economy Lab
The Inclusive Economy Lab is led by Marianne Bertrand, the Chris P. Dialynas Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Co-Director of Social Enterprise Initiative at Booth, and the Pritzker Director of the University of Chicago Inclusive Economy Lab. Her research, which covers labor economics, corporate finance, and development economics, has been published widely. She is a member of the board of directors for the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Our team currently consists of thirty-eight full-time staff, who work in a hybrid virtual and in‑person environment at our main office in downtown Chicago. Our constantly evolving portfolio of projects spans workforce development, housing and homelessness, postsecondary education, and income support policies.
This position participates in scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.
Education:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:Master's degree in public policy, social science, economics, public health, education, or a related field strongly preferred.
Experience:Background managing applied research projects, ideally in a policy research, government, nonprofit, or academic setting. Demonstrated experience with IRB protocols, data use agreements, and human subjects research requirements. Understanding of working directly with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, or community‑based partners on research or program implementation.
Preferred CompetenciesStrong project management skills to build and maintain detailed project plans, track deliverables across multiple stakeholders, and manage competing deadlines.
Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods and comfortable working alongside analysts on data‑driven projects. Read and interpret statistical output even if not producing it independently.
Excellent written communication skills, including contributing to research reports, memos, or policy briefs.
Commitment to racial equity and economic justice, and experience working in or alongside communities affected by poverty or structural exclusion.
