The COSMIAC Research Center at the University of New Mexico is seeking a Research Engineer 3 to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for externally funded programs in space systems. This senior role leads multidisciplinary teams, develops technical vision, and manages proposals, grants, budgets, and sponsor relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degrees above the minimum education requirement may substitute for experience.
• Eligibility to obtain a DoD security clearance may be required.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts advanced engineering research for space systems applications.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and manage funded programs and grants.
• Develop and maintain sponsor relationships and proposal development.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff and students.
• Coordinate cross-disciplinary activities across engineering domains.
• Present findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance in experiments.
• Oversee laboratory capabilities and procurement of equipment.
