Job summary

Mississippi State University’s Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems Extension (CAVS‑E) seeks a Research Engineer I–Senior to support automation initiatives for state manufacturers and public-sector partners. The role involves hands-on engineering, applied research, and professional development to advance economic development.

Travel to client sites is expected; U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering required for all levels (I–Senior).
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work with clients.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical assistance for industrial clients and public-sector stakeholders; may involve overnight travel.
• Apply mechanical engineering principles to advanced manufacturing challenges including production systems, tooling, ergonomics, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Assess, select, implement, and optimize manufacturing technologies including automation-enabled systems and data-enabled operations.
• Lead or support industry projects from scoping through completion with planning, budgeting, and deliverables.
• Collaborate with manufacturers to identify needs and develop practical technical solutions with measurable improvements.
• Develop and deliver technical workshops, training, and demonstrations for industry partners and workforce programs.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, presentations, and communications for sponsors and stakeholders.
• Support lab and demonstration activities including hands-on prototyping and pilot demonstrations.
• Stay aware of current methods in mechanical engineering, automation, and smart manufacturing.
