Job summary

Moderna in Cambridge, MA seeks a Molecular Biologist to join the Nucleic Acid Technology team. You will synthesize, purify, and characterize mRNA and other nucleic acids to enable research across Moderna.

You will work with scientists to generate high-quality materials, apply molecular biology techniques, analyze data, and troubleshoot challenges while contributing to method improvements in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. and/or MS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioanalytical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field with 2–5+ years (BS) or 0–3+ years (MS).
• Hands-on molecular biology techniques such as PCR, IVT, or related enzymatic workflows.
• Experience with nucleic acid purification and characterization using chromatographic/analytical methods.
• Ability to independently execute experiments, analyze data, and maintain documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced lab.
• Site-based role; not eligible for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize, purify, and characterize mRNA and other nucleic acids for Moderna programs.
• Apply molecular biology techniques to generate high-quality research materials.
• Analyze, interpret, and document experimental data per procedures.
• Troubleshoot workflows and contribute to process improvements.
• Support implementation and optimization of new lab methods and technologies.
• Train and mentor junior researchers; maintain safe, collaborative lab culture.
• Maintain equipment and support general lab operations with proper safety documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support multiple programs.
