Job summary

DMC Biotechnologies is seeking Research Associates and Senior Research Associates to join the Metabolic Engineering team in RTP, NC. The roles focus on molecular biology, microbial strain development, and data-driven optimization.

You will work on E. coli and S. cerevisiae projects, follow SOPs, collaborate across teams, and contribute to safe, well-documented experiments while gaining experience in an innovative biotech environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
• RA: 0–3+ years lab experience; Sr. RA: 2–5+ years experience, independently executes complex workflows.
• Self-starter with attention to detail and collaborative mindset.
• Experience with PCR, plasmid construction, DNA assembly, transformation, and microbial strain development.
• Experience following SOPs and experimental procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple experiments.
• Hands-on experience with microbial engineering, molecular biology, or synthetic biology, especially E. coli and/or S. cerevisiae.
• Experience with lab automation/liquid handlers and fermentation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with scientists in a cross-functional environment.
• Perform hands-on molecular biology and microbial engineering experiments for constructing strains (E. coli and S. cerevisiae).
• Execute PCR, DNA purification, DNA assembly, transformation, plasmid construction, and strain construction.
• Perform high-throughput screening and characterization of engineered production strains.
• Operate laboratory automation systems for screening workflows.
• Conduct bench-scale fermentation/cultivation and collect high-quality data.
• Analyze data with Python or Excel and identify trends.
• Follow SOPs and contribute to procedures.
• Prepare reagents and materials for daily work and maintain inventory.
• Maintain safe laboratory practices and report deviations.
